Frank O'Dea O.C. LLD
"The Power of Hope, Vision and Action"

With hope – all things become possible. With hope, one has the courage to change the present into a very different future. With hope, dreams are possible; with hope one has the persistence to follow the dream and with hope one can – and will – become much more than you ever dreamed possible. Frank demonstrates this power of hope by using his own story and experiences of hope, courage, change and persistence. Humble yet powerful, Frank relates how he went from the bowery, panhandling for nickels and dimes not so many years ago, to the successes he has achieved today. This is truly a motivational story. Audiences from all walks of life identify with this very real story of achievement, and Frank’s warm style convinces his audiences that he is speaking directly to them.

A former homeless man, Frank O’Dea is a now a celebrated business person, an author, and well known humanitarian. He is an Officer in the Order of Canada and holds honorary degrees from two universities. Over the past 20 years, Frank’s speaking and his books have inspired action and impacted the lives of people in many parts of the world. Local and international charities have raised millions of dollars through his fundraiser speaking. In the business world, his speaking has opened new perspectives and affected results for thousands of people, from business owners to executives at large corporations such as Microsoft and TD Bank; from leaders at the United Nations to students in China and the Philippines.

As a young man, he was a homeless panhandler living on the streets dealing with all the problems brought on by addiction. Against all odds, with only a sliver of hope, he started on the road to recovery and within a few years he and a partner opened the coffee store that became the Second Cup chain of coffee stores. That chain, which he eventually sold, grew to hundreds of stores in Canada, the USA and the Middle East. He went on to launch and run several other innovative businesses which became international successes, which accounts for the demand for him to speak to business audiences. At the same time, he was the founding President of the Renascent Treatment Foundation and went on to launch several significant charities, such as Street Kids International and the Canadian Landmine Foundation. His work, through these charities and with the United Nations has impacted the lives of millions of people.

Recognition for Frank O’Dea’s achievements includes Ontario Volunteer Award, Lifetime Board Member Renascent Treatment Foundation, Paul Harris Awards, Rotary Lifetime Achievement Award, Doctor of Laws Royal Roads University, Doctor of Laws Carlton University and Officer of the Order of Canada. His inspiring story is retold in his book, “When All You Have is Hope” published by Penguin and available online and in bookstores across the country.
